Since everyone now adays is so worked up about the idea that machines might become advanced enough to become self-aware, I figured I'd ask all my friends here this question:
If a machine becomes self-aware, and is then destroyed, is it the same as death?
Thanks for your opinions!

Does a self-aware machine have a soul?

Heh, this is a funny topic. The next thing that comes along will probably be Eet, asking "Is it morally right to destroy a self-aware machine, or would it make kiddies want to die themselves and its bad for the welfare of children"?
I think self-aware machines do have a soul, or the mechanical equivalent. I mean, life is just a kind of energy stored inside a being, so why cant the energy be stored in a CPU too? Thats the key to self-awareness.
Human babies aren't self-aware.
ANd its NEVER, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,EVER, EVER,EVER right to destroy technology, self-aware or not self-aware!!!
Thats DESTROYER RULE 3!! Term should know better than ANYONE!

I do know that; I just wanted to know what non-Destroyers think.

Human babies ARE self aware. For a being to BE a soul and HAVE a spirit it must have self-awareness AND respiration. Machines never have this and therefore are NOT souls and do NOT have spirits.

I think self-aware machines can die in a different way... indeed, they "think" with a form of energy and their awareness can end.

if machines can think and die they can also rebel

Any fool can rebel - very few people can cooperate and accomplish a goal!
